Has any one checked out Creately?  It’s an online diagramming application that allows you to create flowcharts, wireframes, UI mockups as well as anything else that you might use Visio for.  The application has received great reviews and with easy collaboration and secure online storage thrown in, it looks like Creately is a pretty compelling product.

Creately uses a freemium model and offers a pretty good free version of their application.  Their paid upgrade offers unlimited collaborators, unlimited storage and backups and although I have not had a chance to try it out yet, I thought I would post about Creately since they have a very interesting deal going on currently.  Until September 16, Creately users can upgrade to the paid version of the application by paying whatever they want!  Since, you pay monthly, you could lock in a paid account for as low as $2 a month indefinately.

This is definitely an interesting twist on the Freemium model and I will be following them closely to see how it works out for them.  I will probably do another post on this topic in the future and we will see if Creately’s ‘pay what you want’ model ends up being just a promotional gimmick or a sustainable strategy that can be translated to other companies as well.
